Biking Highlights — Experience a journey of a lifetime on Partners Asia 3rd Annual Donor Bike Trip in Burma. Take an unhurried cycling adventure through the countryside of Burma-Myanmar. Meet local people and experience rural culture while cycling through heritage sites. Explore the beauty of Mt. Zwekapin and its’ 2,400 foot summit. Your bike trip will take you through rural villages and open-air markets. Cycle along the bank of the majestic Thanlwin River (also known as the Salween River), or choose to venture into mystic Saddar Cave walking through an entrance of ancient Buddhist icons. Your trip continues to Mt Kyaiktiyo (Golden Rock) site of the Shwedan Pagoda, the oldest most historical Pagoda in the world. Your cycling adventure will be fully supported by a “sag wagon” and includes hotel / guest inn accommodations for you to relax in and enjoy the local culture and sites.
October 26 – Day One. You will arrive at Yangon (the largest city in Myanmar) to start your bike adventure.
October 27 – Day Two. We will meet with the bike Tour Company and begin our trek. Departing Yangon, traveling to Bago, then to Thaton to begin our cycling trip in Hpa-an.
October 28-30 – Days Three, Four and Five. You will have the option to visit three historic sites: Mt Zwekapin, the Saddar Cave or cycle along the Thanlwin River. We will visit community organizations focused on education, youth outreach and women empowerment.
October 31-November 1 – Days Six and Seven. Cycle along the way to Mawlamyine, the fourth largest city of Burma-Myanmar situated in the Salween River delta. Then off to Kyaiktiyo by vehicle and continue by bike to Kinmon.
November 2 – Day Eight. We will cycle to the coast for lunch, and a visit with local partners focused on education and community outreach.
November 3 – Day Nine. The cycling trip will take us back to Yangon. A visit to the stunning gilded Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon is recommended in late afternoon or early evening. Where we will conclude our amazing Burma-Myanmar cycling adventure.
Your cycling journey will be led by Partners Asia Executive Director, Therese Caouette. Therese has 30-years experience working with refugees, migrants and displaced persons in Southeast Asia. Arrangements can be made for site visits to Partners Asia local network of community based organizations and/or other Yangon activities depending on your travel dates and times.
Suggested tax deductible donation per traveler: US$10,000 to support Partners Asia’s work to benefit and empower the most vulnerable people of Burma. Suggestions from former bike participant on how to raise these funds; Read Audrey’s story on how she funded her bike trip.
Meals and drinks (average $20/day)
Bike Trip (bike, accommodations, ground transportation, airport pickup) $1600/each – includes 8 days fully supported bike trip, 9 nights in a hotel. Please note that similar Myanmar bike tours charge close to $5,000.
