Broadway Benefit raises more than $15,000 for the people of Burma – Myanmar
Actor Ben Stiller and playwright John Guare joined 52 of our supporters for an intimate discussion about drama and Burma following a June 21 benefit performance of “The House of Blue Leaves,” deemed “the best show of the year” by the Wall Street Journal’s theater critic.
Myanmar is a place where you don’t need theater tickets to witness tragedy, redemption and the full range of human emotion—all playing out in a beautiful (yet often harsh) corner of the planet. Producer Susan Gallin was inspired to host the fundraiser after traveling to Burma earlier this year on a benefit tour led by Partners Asia President Hal Nathan and Joseph Goldstein, one of the West’s leading Dharma teachers.
“Traveling with Hal and Joseph in Burma and seeing the good work Partners Asia is doing had a profound effect on my life,” Gallin says. “I’ve learned a lot from the joyfulness of seeing people who materially have less than we do, but spiritually have a lot.”
