“If you work on the farm, your work creates food. What can education give you?” Until recently, education in the Middle Kayan Region of Myanmar was virtually inaccessible. Poverty, warfare, and lack of understanding about the benefits of education meant that most people didn’t go to school. Even today, only around 40% of Kayan children in the region are in school.

A Place to Call Home

Our partner, Meikswe Myanmar, established Palae Metta to care for women and children living with HIV/AIDS. Located outside Yangon, this residential clinic is currently home for 21 children and 16 women who are receiving medical treatment, healthy food, education and even vocational training. Palae Metta is a haven, where they receive not only medical care, but the encouragement of a community.
